An Empty Shell
Sometimes I have this strange feeling,
Some may call it emptiness, or loneliness, or my heart isn't just healing,
I feel as if I'm a plastic Easter egg,
An egg that looks so good on the outside, that would make any child beg,
My exterior is just so eye-appealing to anyone,
But once they look in the inside, they know I am no prize to be won,
I have nothing… no candy, chocolate, trinkets, or toys,
Just another empty shell that won't give them any joy,
So they toss me in the trash like they always do,
And soon I started to believe I was worthless and nothing, too.

As I write this letter
I am consumed by my own hand
I believe the lie I utter
A treacherous maze is the heart of man
I walk this road with my own staff
I direct the paths I take
I raise my long prideful nose
and blame God for my mistakes
I strike at others with my hands
and kick dust into their eyes
I taunt those who do perceive
I bring the flow of my demise
I uplift myself into the sky
not knowing that I will fail
When I hit the dust I'll surely die
